Description
Summary:•Supercontinuum generation can be controlled by introducing chirp to the pump beam.•The best supercontinuum in terms of broadening and efficiency, generated at zero chirp.•Positive and negative chirp exhibits different behaviors.•The peak power is independent of the sign of chirp.•Material dependency in the peak shift observed for supercontinuum generation.•Rare earth doped samples don’t show any peak shift under negative chirp. Supercontinuum generation from undoped and rare-earth doped Barium Zinc Borate glass with variation in input chirp of a fs pulse is investigated. With varying chirp, the most intense peak of the supercontinuum (SC) spectrum is observed. The peak shift for rare-earth-doped samples with the negatively chirped pulses was not significant compared to that observed with positively chirped pulses. Comparing the evolution of SCG with varying input pulse chirp suggested a material dependency of supercontinuum generation under chirping.
