Description
Summary:Some features inherent in the behavior of a body with two elastic supports on a plane under conditions of dry friction are discussed. The equations of motion represent a dynamic system with a variable structure. A paradox consisting in the fact that no equilibrium conditions can be attained at a certain position of seemingly obvious equilibrium is revealed. The dry friction force cannot hold the body in this position. Motion, in the course of which one or both supports slip depending on the value of the friction coefficient is described,.
