Summary:Reactive species produced by nonthermal plasma (NTP) at atmospheric pressure have proven to be excellent chemical and biochemical agents that promote the healing process by an adequate NTP spread over superficial biologic tissues. In this reported case, a patient suffering acute radiodermatitis in the neck was treated with NTP therapy for the healing process and preventing infection. Five NTP treatments were spread over damaged skin situated at the erythema for 5 min each. NTP was applied, maintaining 5-10 mm concerning the epidermal surface. Since the first NTP exposition patient manifested considerably downgrading of pain and itching. These diminished sensations are related to the redness intensity decrease of the neck erythema. In this case, NTP therapy demonstrated its effectiveness and safety at healing a patient had suffering acute radiation dermatitis in the neck without seroma formation, bleeding, or infection; and without utilizing other dermocosmetic skincare products.
