Summary: | In this study, a novel hybrid boron-doped titanium oxide–coated waste mussel shell (B-TiO
2
/shell) composite with good visible absorption was synthesized via hydrothermal method. The B-TiO
2
/shell exhibited a higher photocatalytic oxidation efficiency of X-3B than that of naked B-TiO
2
under visible irradiation, due to the synergic effect from the well-dispersed B-dopant mixed phase crystalline structures (anatase and brookite crystals) and the adsorption from shell matrix. The photodegradation kinetics of X-3B can be described by the pseudo-first-order rate expression with chemisorption-controlled process, and regeneration experiments indicated its reusability. The present B-TiO
2
/shell would be applicable as economical and efficient photocatalyst for wastewater treatment. |
