Geometric Parameter Determination by Ray Tracing of a Radiation-Absorbing Cavity Painted with Specular Ink

The measurement of total solar irradiance onboard satellites allowed obtaining more accurate data due to atmospheric absence. description The measurement of total solar irradiance onboard satellites allowed obtaining more accurate data due to atmospheric absence. The instruments used in these measurements are electrical substitution radiometers, which use cavity-type sensors. This work shows the ideal geometric parameters for these sensors considering a paint with specular characteristics. The study was carried out using non-sequential ray tracing for a cone and for a cone-cylinder cavity. The best results were obtained for a cone length to diameter ratio of 1.5 whereas for a cylinder, a reduction of up to 80% could be obtained.
