Performance evaluation sectoral indices during Covid 19 pandemic period. A study on NSE India

Stock exchanges are major news breakers nowadays its importance is being increased day-by-day. Any economic crisis will have direct impact on performance of stock exchanges. The recent pandemic covid 19 has affected the performance of stock markets worldwide. The Indian stock exchanged ere in a drastic development in recent past. And Indian stock exchange have very bright future perspective as a fast-developing country. NSE is the biggest stock exchange in India in terms of volume. Nifty50 is benchmark index of NSE. There are around 13 sectoral indices in NSE which reflects the performance of stocks such sectors. So, it is important to know the performance of sectoral indices especially during crisis periods as these have significant influence on performance of benchmark index. This study analyses performance of sectoral indices in NSE during the Covid 19 pandemic period using risk adjusted return measures. The pharma sector clearly outperformed all sectors in all measures of performances. The sectors like realty media and financial service have ill performed. The performance of financial services sector has severely impacted the performance fniftyt50 as the financial service sector comprises 33% of nifty 50. Financial services, oil and gas and IT sectors have higher significant influence on bench mark index.
