Summary: | An interacting fault model with interaction between one infinite and other finite fault to analyse the overlapping normal faults zone has been considered. The faults are buried, inclined, creeping, dip-slip in nature. The faults are located in viscoelastic half-space and medium is standard linear solid (SLS). The solutions of displacement, stress and strain components have been obtained by using Laplace transform method and Green’s function technique. The displacement, stress and strain components are analysed by observing the effect of inclinations of the faults, depth of the faults from the free surface and velocities of the fault movement. The effect of time on the movement across the fault has also been discussed. Ground deformation due to interaction between infinite and finite faults is compared with the ground deformation due to interaction between both finite faults and both infinite faults. Choosing a suitable value of parameters, obtained solutions have also been plotted as the support of our obtained analytical results. The graphical and geometrical representations of the fault model can provide some object on accumulation or release of stress-strain in the lithosphere-asthenosphere system and from where we have got some idea on earthquake prediction in overlapping zone. |
