Tetraploids and octoploid plants were induced through somatic embryogenesis on a half-strength MS medium without plant growth regulators. Key message In diploid Haemanthus albiflos , immature embryo-derived embryogenic callus cultures were established. After colchicine treatment to the embryogenic callus cultures, tetraploid and octoploid plants were obtained simultaneously. Graphical abstract
