Summary: | •A seismic profile intersecting the Cerro Prieto Geothermal Field's production zone was interpreted with the aid of well reports.•As previously speculated, the seismic imaging of the Cerro Prieto pull-apart basin shows an asymmetric graben-like structure rather than a half-graben.•The neighboring Cachanilla basin is also imaged, exhibiting similar seismic features to those observed in Cerro Prieto's production zone.•The presence of intrusive bodies is observed as well as significant subsidence is at the basin's center.
We present a legacy crooked-line seismic reflection profile intersecting the Cerro Prieto geothermal field's production zone, located in the basin of the same name. Structural features such as the Cerro Prieto and Imperial transform faults can be seen. Interpretation of rock units was backed with well information gathered in historical and recent studies of the area. Additionally, a second basin was identified (here called Cachanilla) showing similar seismic signatures to those observed in Cerro Prieto, thus raising the possibility of being a geothermal prospect. With this study, we hope to contribute to understanding the role of intrusive bodies on sediment-hosted geothermal systems. |
