Description
Summary:In this work, the stress relaxation behavior of rock joints with different slope ratios was investigated using the shear tests. The results showed that the relaxation curves of the joints can be divided into three stages, i.e., the instantaneous relaxation stage, attenuation relaxation stage and stable relaxation stage. Furthermore, a nonlinear Maxwell equation between viscosity coefficient and time was derived, the change trend of the initial viscosity coefficient was found, and the corresponding theoretical calculations agreed with the testing results. Based on the present results, a termed relaxation stress peak method was proposed to determine the long-term strength of such joints.
