Description
Summary:Ice adhesion plays an important role in the operation of technical structures and equipment in the open atmosphere, where the accumulation of aqueous precipitates may threaten the safe functioning of industrial objects. In this review, we consider adhesion of ice and water to different surfaces and discuss the mechanisms of adhesion of aqueous media to solid surfaces. Special attention is focused on the role of surface forces and a quasi-liquid water layer in ice adhesion to solid surfaces. Factors that govern the strength of the adhesion contact with modern anti-icing coatings are considered and the temperature dependence of this strength is discussed.
