Description
Summary:Kinetics of the reaction of triphenylphosphine with methyl vinyl ketone has been studied using the stopped flow technique. The experimental data have indicated that the reactions of alkenes activated by different electron withdrawing groups belong to the same reaction series and follow the identical mechanism involving the rate-determining proton transfer step. The effect of the electron withdrawing groups has been quantitatively analyzed using various relationships, and no correlation between the electrophilicity and the alkene reactivity has been found.
