Description
Summary:Patterson asks what crisis does to our bodies and how do we tell our stories accordingly. Barbados--her lifeworld--is one of many frontlines under threat of disappearance because of the climate crisis. At the same time, trans bodies and practices have a similar risk of disappearance. She is reaching for a trans poetics of climate crisis in her work, in which intimacies between bodies and worlds can be spoken to and grieved. She has been reaching for what it might mean to be queer and trans in the Caribbean; which she describes as living a life "below the surface." Patterson asks how does she hold space for queer life in her practice that is not a danger. She also asks how does she view such lives discreetly. These questions resonate with part of her practice, espeically masquerade, costuming and video techniques (like digital keying).
