Summary:The article brings forward the role of information and communication technologies in improving the quality of university education. The authors underline that information technologies can intensify the didactic potential of current methods of education and solve a number of issues higher education faces nowadays. The article comprises a list of up-to-date systems and technologies which have a great potential to improve studying and teaching process. Artificial foreign language environment and the knowledge of specialized electronic dictionaries and translation memory tools appear to be of critical importance for future linguists and translators. An impressive array of educational resources advertised on the internet raises the issue of careful selection of the technologies to be used in higher education process. An attempt is undertaken to suggest the principles of contemporary information and communication technologies able to improve language training at university and increase students’ motivation during offline and online learning.
