Polysaccharides from Fruit of Elaeagnus angustifolia and Their Antioxidant Activity

The polysaccharide PEC-EX-2′ with molecular mass 75.49 kDa was obtained from fruit of Elaeagnus angustifolia L. Chemical and spectral analyses established that it was a branched polymer in which the main chain consisted of α -1,4-bound residues of galacturonic acid. Side branches of T-GalA, 1,5-Ara...

Description
Summary:The polysaccharide PEC-EX-2′ with molecular mass 75.49 kDa was obtained from fruit of Elaeagnus angustifolia L. Chemical and spectral analyses established that it was a branched polymer in which the main chain consisted of α -1,4-bound residues of galacturonic acid. Side branches of T-GalA, 1,5-Ara f , and 1,4-Glc p were bonded to the main chain at the O-2 and O-4 positions. The polysaccharides exhibited in vitro antioxidant activity against DPPH and ABTS radicals.
