Description
Summary:— Structural aspects of frictional wear of polyether ketones reinforced with four nanofiller types have been studied. It has been demonstrated that this important property of friction of polymer nanocomposites is controlled by two main parameters: nanocomposite structure and type of its fracture in contact with a counterbody. It has been mentioned that these factors are interrelated: if the structure’s fractal dimension is lower than 2.5, then brittle wear mechanism takes place (fatigue mechanism) accompanied by an increase in frictional wear. If the mentioned dimension is in the range of 2.5–3.0, then there occurs transfer to ductile (quasi-ductile) fracture and decrease in wear. Increase in the fractal dimension (roughly speaking, compaction of the nanocomposite structure) always results in a decrease in frictional wear of the nanocomposite irrespective of the type of fracture.
