Description
Summary:Brake system is most essential and critical component in automobiles. The braking system mainly comprises a brake plate, brake shoes and brake drum. Principle of working braking system is combination of shoe and brake actuating mechanism. This brake mechanism converts kinetic energy into heat energy, to retard the vehicle movement by means of friction. Brakes should have enough strength with minimum weight and also consider optimum value of heat rate. In this paper first part is dynamic analysis of brake drum with finite element method, and then next is transient analysis of finned brake drum and effectiveness of the heat transfer rate for the different materials used for brake drum. The materials considered for brake drum is EN AC-41700 Cast Aluminum; finally comparing the heat flux of the original brake drum, five-finned brake drum and seven-finned brake drum.
