Description
Summary:The specific features of the motion of markers placed on the free surface of a vortex funnel formed by rotation of water in a cylindrical tank are studied experimentally and theoretically. The time dependence of the angular and radial coordinates of marker’s centers of mass, as well as the dependence of the marker rotation about its own axis on the angle of rotation of its center of mass about the vertical axis of vortex flow, are measured. The mathematical model of the motion of a solid marker of an arbitrary shape is proposed. The results of theoretical calculations are in good agreement with experimental data.
