Summary:The turquoise-fronted amazon, Amazona aestiva , is a parrot (order Psittaciformes) that has a long history of domestication in Brazil, where it is often kept as a pet. Most animals are captured in the wild and traded illegally, and many of these parrots are exposed to poor living conditions, in which they are often exposed to respiratory disorders. The present study describes the complete blood count and the biochemical profile of captive A. aestiva with pneumonia, in order to provide insights and guidelines for the diagnosis of the disorder in these birds by veterinarians. A total of 19 adult parrots were selected. The clinical examination revealed that 12 of the 19 parrots had respiratory disorders; these 12 birds were allocated to the pneumonia group (PG).
