Dependence of the Duration of Periods of the Mitotic Cycle on the Holoploid DNA Content in Root Apical Meristems
The dependence of the duration of individual periods of the mitotic cycle on the holoploid DNA content, the number of chromosomes, and the average amount of DNA per chromosome for 64 species was analyzed. In diploids, the duration of the mitotic cycle and its T S and T G1 periods increased with an i...

Summary: | The dependence of the duration of individual periods of the mitotic cycle on the holoploid DNA content, the number of chromosomes, and the average amount of DNA per chromosome for 64 species was analyzed. In diploids, the duration of the mitotic cycle and its
T
S
and
T
G1
periods increased with an increase in the haploid DNA content, and a weak increase in the duration of mitosis and the
T
G2
period was insignificant. The duration of the sum of the durations of periods
T
G1
,
T
G2
, and mitosis
T
M
increased with an increase in the holoploid DNA content but not as sharply as the entire cycle. In representatives of the orders Asparalales and Liliales, which differ from other species by a much larger holoploid DNA content and mitotic cycle durations, these correlations were more pronounced and this was observed for the duration of mitosis and the
T
G2
period in them. In polyploid species not belonging to the orders Asparalales and Liliales, only the duration of mitosis
T
M
weakly depended on the holoploid DNA content, while no dependence was observed on the duration of the whole cycle and its periods. No data are available for the polyploid species from Asparagales and Liliales. |
