Summary: | [13] However, prevalence of T2DM is high in urban areas due to sedentary lifestyle and changing dietary habits. [...]the present study was undertaken to assess the ADD utilization pattern in a diabetes clinic run by endocrinology department of an urban set-up tertiary care teaching hospital in Eastern India. Demographic, anthropometric, clinical, and laboratory variables included age, sex, comorbidities, duration of diabetes, longitudinal measures of body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, glycosylated hemoglobin, fasting, and post meal glucose and lipids, A1C values on the date of diagnosis/ first visit on OPD and thereafter were obtained as the closest observations within a 3-month window. Body weight, BMI, systolic/diastolic blood pressure, lipids (LDL, HDL, and triglycerides), and heart rate were calculated as the average of available measurements within a 3-month window of the diagnosis/first visit on OPD or ADD initiation date. Average number of drugs per encounter, percentage of drugs prescribed from essential drug list (National EDL of India), percentage of drugs prescribed in generic name, percentage of antibiotics and injections prescribed, patients' knowledge about dosage and adherence to medication; availability of copy of EDL/hospital supply drug list, and availability of key drugs at the OPD. |
