Description
Summary:This work initially aims to study the influence of temperature on the mechanical properties of composite materials and adhesive. With this purpose, the mechanical properties of the adhesive and composite were measured experimentally under different temperature to provide the requested information for finite element modeling, and then inserted in a numerical model of bonded composite patch on cracked laminate composite plate to evaluate the fracture energy variations at repaired crack tip for different temperatures. The main results obtained confirm the beneficial effects of the composite patch on the mechanical behavior of a cracked composite. Moreover, the reduction in the mechanical properties induced by temperature negatively affects the repair strength. On the other hand, the fracture energy is strongly related to crack length and temperature.
