Summary: | Extracted lineaments maps with the geospatial analysis performed by GIS, such as density and orientation, will contribute in comprehending how the lineaments and structural elements in the study area relate to one another. Due to the lack of achievements and accomplishments Al Jabal Al Akhdar in this regard, this study seeks to explain the lineaments’ tectonic significance. Throughout this study, the Alos Palsor Satellite was used for automatic extraction. The goal of this study’s technique was to establish a unique kind of automatic analysis for lineaments and utilize the results to link tectonic significance and landslides to those lineaments. Two significant observations were recognized about the orientation measured from the analysis of the 28,061 geological lineaments, that were digitally detected. First, the Upper Cretaceous rocks shows trends in NW–SE and NE-SW directions. Second, the other younger Paleogene/Neogene rocks shows a major trend toward the NW–SE. The high density of lineaments is clearly seen in the eastern central part of the study area where the Oligocene Al Bayda and Al Abraq formations are exposed and the lowest densities of lineaments are found in the western and coastline parts of the study area. The density, landslide susceptibility maps and the stratigraphic framework of the area reveals a strong relationship between the lineament intensity and how they are distributed, which reflects several tectonic occurrences. The Oligocene, a period of devastating tectonic history of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, has the greatest influence on the intensity of lineaments in eastern region. However, in the Miocene, a time of relative stability, the intensity of lineaments is greatly reduced western region. |
