Production of functional C4 organic acids from ammonolysis of biofeedstock poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)
A new ammonolysis technology is developed for producing targeted functional C 4 acids from a renewable feedstock, i.e., poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB). β-Aminobutyric acid (BABA) and β-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA) are produced from PHB with an aggregate selectivity of 99% under a one-pot catalyst-free...

acids from a renewable feedstock, i.e., poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB). β-Aminobutyric acid (BABA) and β-hydroxybutyric acid (BHBA) are produced from PHB with an aggregate selectivity of 99% under a one-pot catalyst-free reaction at 140 °C. The product distribution can be controlled by ammonia concentration, and the reaction mechanism is investigated based on quantum chemical calculation. This work establishes a promising route for the production of β-substituted C
4
acids via a green and sustainable pathway. |
