Summary: | Fernando et al respond to comments by Drs Li and Li on their study which demonstrated a modest association between survivorship after ECMO and new mental health diagnoses. They state that although their study was able to demonstrate an association between ECMO survivorship and mental health morbidity, the mechanisms that may influence this association are unknown. Whether ECMO may cause downstream mental health sequelae is controversial, and we did not have the granularity of data to investigate potential hypotheses. |
