Description
Summary:This research presents an investigation of formulation of a new antiseptic which holds two basic demands; the effectiveness in killing all or most harmful microorganisms and being safe for human use. with this respect, formulations of povidone-iodine (PVP-I) (10%), H2O2 (3%) and Aloe Vera gel (pure) with different ratios were prepared. Four types of bacteria were chosen to test the effectiveness of the formulations prepared. Two were gram-positive, and the other two were gram-negative types. The formulations were tested in comparison with two other common antiseptics; chloroxylenol (Dettol) and alcohol-based antiseptic. The efficiency of the new antiseptic was also proven by testing it on the skin of lab mice, as well as by infecting these mice with two types of bacteria after wounding and contaminating them. It was found that the prepared formulation was superior to chloroxylenol and alcohol-based antiseptic in killing bacteria.
