Description
Summary:In manufacturing, batch size is decreasing, while the product range is increasing. In these conditions, it is important to ensure continual operation of the available production equipment. Downtime of the equipment may be due to maintenance. Two categories may be distinguished: planned maintenance and sudden unplanned maintenance. Sudden maintenance is due to the unforeseen incapacity of production equipment; planned maintenance is scheduled on statistical principles to prevent breakdown. Quantitative analysis of temporary production losses due to downtime permits assessment of the scope for decreasing downtime. One possibility is active diagnostics of the performance of critical components so as to establish when maintenance is required. Theoretical and experimental principles are proposed for diagnostics of the equipment without shutdown and informational support of maintenance planning.
