Description
Summary:This study aims to evaluate the flexural strength of structural insulated panels (SIP Panels) reinforced with aluminum sheets in comparison with plain polystyrene foam. This research deals with the fabrication of innovative structural insulated panels using polystyrene foam reinforced with aluminum sheets and glass fiber. Two groups of materials are taken into the study, namely the plain polystyrene foam is taken as a control group and polystyrene foam reinforced with aluminum sheets is taken as an experimental group. This study consists of 20 samples for the control group and 20 samples for the experimental group. The flexural strength of the material is found using Universal testing machines. The SPSS software is used for carrying out statistical analysis. It is observed that the aluminum reinforced panel shows a 60% increase in flexural strength when it is compared with the plain polystyrene foam and a 30% increase in comparison with normal wood-facing structural insulated panels. Within the limits of the study the reinforced SIP wall panel shows a significant improvement in the flexural property as well as the impact strength. Hence these panels can be used for roofing, temporary construction, door panels, and structural partition.
