Description
Summary:Noni (Morinda citrifolia L.) is one of the medicinal plants. Noni has antibacterial, antiviral, antituberculosis, antitumor, analgesic, hypotensive, anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardiovascular activities. While the Noni Leaf contains 1 g protein; fat 0.2 g; carbohydrates 4.4 g; fiber 1.1 g; calcium 58 mg; phosphorus 93 mg; iron 4.4 mg; - Carotene 0.3 mg; riboflavin 0.07 mg; niacin 5.6 mg and ascorbic acid 50 mg/100 g leaves. Noni also contains saponins, scopoletin, acubin, asperuloside, alizarin, and anthraquinone. This study aims to formulate the Noni Leaf (Morinda citrifolia L.) extract as a mouthwash preparation with different concentrations of glycerin as a humectant and to determine the activity of the Morinda citrifolia L. extract mouthwash against Streptococcus mutants. This research was conducted first by making a mouthwash formulation from the Noni leaf extract by evaluating the preparation including Organoleptic Test, pH Test and Viscosity Test. After that, test the antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutants from each formula that has been made. Organoleptic tests include color, odor and shape checks, which are observed visually, showing stable results on storage. PH testing with range 6,7 - 7,3 meets the standard. Likewise in the viscosity test meet the range standard that is 0.89 cp - 2.02 cp. The results of the Noni Leaf extract mouthwash formulation on mutant Streptococcus bacteria, obtained mean±standard deviation in each treatment were positive controls (Pepsodent Mouthwash) of 10.00±0.00, Formula I of 12.93 ± 2.38, Formula II of 14, 57 ± 1.50, Formula III at 15.40 ± 0.66 and Formula IV at 16.30 ± 1.02. With the greatest antibacterial activity in inhibiting is Formula IV with a mean ± standard deviation of 16.30 ± 1.02.
