Description
Summary:This article provides an analysis of recent French controversies on race, gender, and identity politics. It shows that debates on the influence of US-style wokisme bring out a series of essential questions pertaining to the nature of contemporary French society, culture, and politics. They reveal the changing face of a nation that is slowly but steadily adapting to an increasingly globalized and multicultural world order. They also evidence deep sociological and cultural divisions within French society. Finally, they show how a new form of American soft power has become an object of both fascination and anxiety among the French political elites and public.
