Description
Summary:Biogas is a renewable energy source which is the potential to be developed. Pre-treatment is one of the factors that influence the production of biogas. This research focuses on the mechanical pre-treatment process of pineapple peel waste as the raw materials. Pineapple peel waste has the potential to be processed into biogas by being given a pre-treatment process. The mechanical pre-treatment process is being variable as non-treatment variables (3-5 cm), variable with chopping (1 cm), blender (0.5-1cm), and grinder (1 mm). The process uses a batch process with an anaerobic digestion method using an additional starter from fermented cow dung. The highest CH4 yield resulted from the ground variable of 285 mLCH4 / gVS, and the variable obtained the lowest CH4 yield without pre-treatment with 116 mL CH4 / gVS. For the biogas production rate (mL) for 30 days, the highest yield was produced by chopping pre-treatment and got the lowest result without pre-treatment. In the composition analysis, the highest levels of CH4 and CO2 were obtained from the ground variable, with 76% CH4 and 32% CO2. Therefore, it can be concluded if the raw material with the smallest diameter from grinder pre-treatment gives the best result in biogas yield.
