Summary:The aim of this study was to analyze the growth response of areca nut seedlings planted on various compositions of growing media on Ultisol soil. The research was carried out at the Agronomy Unit of the Agrotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Halu Oleo University and Wua-Wua District, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi, from March to September 2020. The treatment design used was randomized block design (RBD), consisting of 9 treatments of the composition of the growing media, namely 100% soil; 75% soil, 0% rice husk charcoal 25% organic plus fertilizer; 50% soil, 0% rice husk charcoal, 50% organic plus fertilizer; 75% soil, 25% rice husk charcoal, 0% organic plus fertilizer; 50% soil, 50% rice husk charcoal, 25% organic plus fertilizer; 25% soil, 25% charcoal rice husk, 50% organic plus fertilizer 50%; 50% soil, 50% rice husk charcoal, 0% organic plus fertilizer; 25% soil, 50% rice husk charcoal, 25% organic plus fertilizer; and 0% soil, 50% husk charcoal, 50% organic plus fertilizer. The treatment was repeated three times so that there were 27 experimental units in total. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance, followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test, if there was a difference in the mean values. The results showed that the composition of the growing media had a significant effect on the growth of areca nut seedlings. Growing media with using a composition of 25% soil, 25% rice husk charcoal, and 50% organic plus fertilizer showing better growth performance of areca nut seedling and significantly different from other treatments but not significantly different from the composition of the growing media 50% rice husk charcoal, 25% organic plus fertilizer organic plus fertilizer. Growing media with a composition of 25% soil, 25% husk charcoal, and 50% organic plus fertilizer can be recommended as an ideal planting medium to increase the growth of areca nut on Ultisol soil.
