Description
Summary:The presence of burglary is one of the significant challenges confronting societies worldwide, particularly in urban areas. Previous research has shown that Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can help to deal with various factors that affect the occurrence and location of offenses. This study integrates methodological strategies to understand the spatial distribution of residential burglary in Surakarta city using Nearest Neighbor Analysis. According to our findings, the dispersed pattern of residential burglary incidents in Surakarta indicates that they are evenly distributed rather than forming a hotspot. Over the last five years, the pattern has remained consistently dispersed. Understanding the spatial distribution of crime provided by GIS could help prevent crime more effectively, allowing local governments to create a safer environment and assist the police. Previous studies used geospatial methods to map, explain, and forecast property crimes in various city settings with varying populations, sizes, and temporal and daily characteristics. Property crime information in Surakarta can now be communicated to the police and the affected neighborhood as a result of this study. It is hoped that future research in relevant disciplines will be conducted using the GIS approach.
