Summary: | Combined effect of surface roughness, couple stress and MHD on a porous secant slider bearing is discussed in this paper. The study is conducted based on Stoke’s couple stress theory and Christensen’s stochastic theory for roughness. It is assumed that the flow in the porous region follows Darcy’s law. Using the modified form of Darcy’s law, velocity of the flow at the interface of porous and non-porous medium is derived to find relevant boundary condition for solving basic equations of motion. Using Christensen’s theory, the modified stochastic MHD couple stress Reynolds equation for transverse as well as longitudinal roughness pattern is obtained. From this partial differential equation an expression for steady state pressure is found using which steady state load, film stiffness and damping coefficient were derived. All these characteristics calculated numerically for some fixed values of other parameters. It is found that all characteristics decrease with the increase in the longitudinal roughness parameter, while all characteristics increase with the increase in transverse roughness parameter. Also, the presence of magnetic field and couple stress enhances these properties |
