Summary: | Deprivation and inequality are rife in Nigerian cities, a phenomenon that is seen as a threat to social cohesion and stability. The multi-variable approach was adopted to account for the intercorrelation of different socio-economic problems in the city. The objectives were to find the spatial drivers of deprivation, the level of variation in deprivation within the city and finding the structure, interrelationships and variability of the individual factors within the city. Results reveal spatial disparities in pathological conditions, access to amenities and infrastructure within the city. Policy implications in favour of disadvantaged areas in the allocation of funds and resources were recommended. |
