Description
Summary:The morphology of destructions occurring in polymethyl methacrylate under irradiation with the electron beam formed in the vacuum diode of an electron accelerator in the filamentation and self-focusing modes is investigated. It has been found that when a sample is exposed to radiation near the polymer ablation threshold, microfractures of rounded and more complex shapes with sizes of (5–50) μm are formed at depths of (40–80) μm. When the ablation threshold in the self-focusing spot is exceeded, a crater is formed on the periphery of which a corona from polymer fibers is observed. Mechanisms of forming local microstructures are analyzed.
