Summary:The earliest oyster-like bivalves of the genus Prospondylus Zimmermann are discovered in the Lower Permian (Upper Asselian–Sakmarian) of the South Cis-Urals. Previous confirmed findings were only known from the Lower-Middle Permian deposits of North America (Kungurian–Wordian) and the Upper Permian of Germany (Wuchiapingian). A new species Prospondylus shakhtauensis Biakov, sp. nov. is described.
