Description
Summary:Global population growth and fast urbanization have resulted in massive amounts of fossil fuel use and organic waste production. People are aiming towards a low-carbon energy system as they become more aware of living in a sustainable society. Hydrogen, a carbon-free source of energy, is gaining popularity. Biohydrogen from organic waste, in particular, piques attention because it generates hydrogen while also disposing of garbage. The sewage sludge of wastewater treatment plant is a kind of organic waste which contains many organics, mainly carbohydrates and proteins. In this research, focused on the possibility of producing biohydrogen from recycling sewage sludge by a laboratory scale based on anaerobic digestion for 10 operating days was explored. To determine the concentration of the generated bio-hydrogen gas, a data acquisition system was designed consist of hydrogen sensors and an Arduino board. Different values of the pH were examined (6.5, 7, 7.5, and 8), the results showed that the best pH corresponding maximum hydrogen production was 7.5, where the concentration was 518.67 ppm in the fifth day of the digestion process.
