Summary: | The drinking water delivery system, agricultural usage, and industrial needs rely heavily on groundwater. Irrigation has a significant impact on crop productivity and yield. The primary goal of this research was to evaluate groundwater resources quality for irrigation uses in the AL-Alam District of Tikrit, Iraq, utilizing the irrigational indices electrical conductivity (EC), residual sodium carbonate (RSC), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), sodium percent (%Na), magnesium hazard (MH), permeability index (PI) and Kelly’s ratio (KR). The general parameters, including various physical-chemical ones, were investigated using the typical analytical methods. The pH readings of the tested samples were all within acceptable limits; (7-9) due to the main types of rock that occupied the study area, such as clay, gypsum, and marl. According to TH results, the groundwater in the research region was quite hard and had high values of EC which 62% of these samples exceeded the applicable limits for irrigation use. Among irrigational indices MH, PI and KR indicated safe utility for irrigation use. On the other side, the indices including RSC, SP, and SAR recorded a high percentage of the analyzed samples within the doubtful class for irrigation use. |
