description Due to increase of energy demands and great merits of renewable power generation, the DG integration with grid is rapidly growing day by day. If in DG connected system the main grid will disconnected and the supply is the given by DG, this phenomenon is called islanding. Islanding is an undesirable process. Islanding may be intentional or unintentional. There is various reason of islanding such as excessive use of DG, maintenance of grid and due to various regular faults. There are many effects of islanding to the power system such as security, damage to customer’s electrical appliances. So for better operation of electrical power system, according to IEEE 1547 standard, islanding phenomenon need to be detected within 2 second. In this article we have reviewed islanding detection methods for integrated distributed generation (DG) system. Islanding detection techniques can active, passive and hybrid types. The evaluation completed to preserve in thoughts balanced islanding detection in power system with minimal non detection zone (NDZ), benefits and drawbacks of numerous islanding detection method.
