description The growth of production, characteristic of a linear economy, due in turn to an increase in the population of the planet, has led to a significant growth in the volume of consumption of various types of energy, water, materials, and other resources. Achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, aimed at increasing the well-being of people, requires large volumes of production, and, accordingly, an increase in the extraction of resources, which has an ever-increasing negative pressure on the environment. There is a problem of ensuring, on the one hand, welfare, on the other hand, ensuring the safety of human life and preserving nature, which requires the search for new, innovative methods for organizing economic development processes. Such "methods" include a circular economy, the transition to which will mean the efficient use of resources, ensuring the cyclical nature of production and consumption. Energy plays a significant role in this process as one of the leading factors of production and its main resource. Considering the fact that the production of electricity, carried out mainly from non-renewable (fossil) sources, has negative consequences for the environment, there is a need to search for alternative energy sources, including renewable energy sources (RES), whose technologies provide the least greenhouse gas emissions. In this regard, the issues of analyzing the possibilities of transition to a circular economy model, searching for investment opportunities for the transition, taking into account the strategic tasks facing the country, taking into account the peculiarities of the spatial development of the electric power industry, are being updated. The implementation of promising investment projects aimed at energy and heat saving generates not only economic, but also environmental and social effects.
