Summary: | Landslide hazard zone (LSH) maps play an important role in land use planning, especially in areas where landslides are likely to occur. LSH mapping is recognized worldwide for analyzing areas susceptible to landslides. Many Indian researchers have taken different approaches to create landslide hazard zone maps, depending on their needs and requirements. The Western Ghats located in the region of Nilgiris district (India) is one of the regions of India with the highest risk of landslides. Satellite images from LANDSAT ETM +, IRS P6, ASTER, etc. The India Survey (SOI) topographic map forms the basis for deriving basic information on various parameters such as slope, aspect, drainage density, geology/lithology, and land use/cover. Although many researchers have quantified the landslide risks in these areas, there are few studies on landslide risk planning environmental and social issues. Landslides in Indian Western Ghats harm people’s social and economic lives, especially in the Nilgiris area. Landslides are usually defined by various ground movements such as Rockfall, profound slope collapse, shallow debris flow. The danger of landslides leads to the significant loss of life and property. You can avoid this damage if you know the relationship between the cause and effect of the event. Landslides are a common and annual phenomenon in the Nilgiris area. Heavy rain caused most of the landslides in the Nilgiris area. One risk that threatens mountainous areas is that hill instability causes land damage. One of the most dangerous instabilities is mass motion, where slipping causes many movements. |
