Description
Summary:In this paper, we compare two indicators of the quantitative assessment of the type design, namely, the irregularity and the I-factor, and, also, compare them with the subjective assessments of the respondents as applied to electronic texts in Russian. The study involved 20 respondents. They rated 10 serif and 10 sans serif fonts and ranked them according to the degree of increase in visually perceived and subjectively judged difference relative to the pre-selected "base" fonts. The results of this experiment were compared with the ranking based on the irregularity and the I-factor. It was found that fonts with a relatively low I-factor and relatively high irregularity correspond to the high ranks. In addition, the irregularity showed a greater affinity for the subjective ratings of serif fonts. The difference in the quantitative estimates of fonts of different typefaces requires further research.
