Summary:Background: COVID – 19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) is expanding worldwide. The characteristics of Covid 19 infection in patients varies from country to country. To move forward, clinical data on infected patients were needed. Methods: This was a retrospective single centered study with 50 patients, of data regarding epidemiological, demographic, clinical and laboratorial parameters, management and outcome of covid-19 patients admitted in a tertiary care teaching hospital in south India. Results: Data of 50 patients who were confirmed with RT-PCR for covid 19 were included in the study. 39 (78%) were male and 11 (22%) of them were female. Patients of 60-69 age group was affected more due to their immunity status and comorbid conditions. Diabetes and hypertension were considered as major comorbidities, Asthma and CVS were found in severe infected patients who were shifted to ICU after admission. 8% of patients had kidney related issues. 5 patients have only covid 19 infection. Treatment protocol was followed as per international and local institutional guidelines and received symptomatic treatment. Patients received Antibiotics, Steroids, Insulin, multi vitamins, O2 support, and Respiratory physiotherapy depending on their disease and comorbid conditions. Patients with respiratory symptoms with or without fever were prescribed with Azithromycin. Baseline electrocardiogram (ECG) was performed in all patients prior to initiation of HCQ. As clinically indicated, nasal prong, face mask and non-rebreathing mask were used to aid for oxygen supplementation. Interpretation and conclusion: The characteristic study findings were male gender, older age, co morbidities and long time to RT-PCR negativity.
