Summary: | Expansive soil is a soil having high swelling and shrinkage properties and cannot be used for engineering work. Bearing capacity of expansive soil is very low and it cannot withstand very heavy loading. So to use this type of soil for engineering work, first it needs to be stabilize but conventional process of stabilizing the expansive soil is costly, so to make cost effective we can use waste product from industries. In the present experiment, steel and copper slag were added together by varying share of percentage of each slag used. After doing the different test like Modified Proctor Test, Unconfined Compression Strength Test (UCS) and California Bearing Ratio(CBR), it was seen that by adding steel and copper together the strength of expansive soil was increasing and bearing capacity was also increasing. Mechanical properties of soil were found out to be increasing and the optimum result were found out to be a blend of 20% steel and 20% copper. |
