Summary:A comprehensive review of photovoltaic solar cells, direct and indirect, recent advances and potential environmental risk associated with the disposal of the cells is presented. The current paper details advances made in the area of direct method and indirect methods of harvesting. The author also reviews different PV technologies and collection technologies prevalent. Furthermore, the paper highlights future research trends for commercialization of harvesting from solar farms. As fossil-based fuels pose significant pollution for the environment, solar cells also pose a risk to the ecological system.
