Summary: | The first article in this issue of the UCJC Business and Society Review analyzes the sovereign debt portfolios and exposure of small European banks. The study, conducted by Maria Martnez Malvar and Laura Baselga-Pascual, examines 33 banks from 17 countries. The research findings indicate that capitalization and credit quality are the main factors determining the exposure to sovereign debt for these small banks. The study also reveals a higher risk aversion and more efficient loan policies among these banks. Surprisingly, the authors find a positive correlation between credit quality and sovereign debt exposure, which can be attributed to the conservative nature of their business models and their smaller size. The article highlights that small banks have a better understanding of local and regional economies and use specific methodologies to analyze the credit risk of local businesses. The second article, by professors Andrs Salas Vallina and Javier Elvira Soria, explores the impact of emotional intelligence on happiness at work. The study focuses on the education sector and suggests that emotional intelligence only promotes happiness at work when it develops resilience. The article also discusses the measurement of emotional intelligence and its growing importance in academic research. It concludes with policy implications for organizations, acknowledging that happiness at work may be influenced by other variables and institutional factors. In another article, Nerea Goikoetxea Gazpio emphasizes the relevance of non-profit organizations (NPOs) in various institutional and economic aspects. The article highlights the importance of performance measurement systems for NPOs, both for policy implementation decisions and stakeholder knowledge and responsibility. The article provides a conceptual approach to understanding the advances and gaps in performance measurement research for NPOs. Lastly, the article by professors Juan Carlos Nu and Margarita Alcaide Risoto examines the role of relational dynamics in educational services and its impact on pedagogical leadership. The study, based on data from 63 schools in Peru, reveals a significant positive correlation between the interpersonal dimension of school directors and their management. The article emphasizes the importance of personal, social, and psychological resources in effective management practices. Overall, this issue of the UCJC Business and Society Review covers a range of topics including sovereign debt |
