Description
Summary:The Taragai peridotite massif is interpreted as an explosive ultramafic pipe that has broken through the Late Proterozoic skarnified carbonate rocks and the Early Paleozoic granites of the western Bureya Terrane. Peridotites at the surface are represented by a strongly eroded bowl-shaped structure filled with disintegrated explosive material with abundant peridotite boulders and host rock xenoliths. The explosive character of the Taragai Massif is proved by the occurrence of magnetite, iron–carbonate–silicate (with magnetite), and Cu–Ag–Au microspherules typical of explosive eruptions. The formation of the Taragai ultramafic pipe is related to the impact of the superheated reduced fluids on the deep peridotite material of the supra-subduction wedge above the stagnant slab of the Izanagi Plate in an active continental margin setting.
