Summary: | In this paper, an approach to recognize hole features automatically from a 3-dimension solid model is proposed. The proposed algorithm is developed to improve the existing Computer Aided Inspection Planning (CAIP) platform. STEP data is utilized as raw data. An algorithm is designed to analyze and calculate the number of face bonds. Hole features are defined according to face bond and cylindrical surfaces type. A software called HECTOR (Hole Inspector) has been developed based on the proposed algorithm. The experiment result shows that HECTOR has accurately recognized cylindrical features from 3D solid model. In addition, a number of cylindrical features, features type, features dimension, features coordinates, and features direction are also successfully retrieved from the 3D solid model. |
