Summary:The durability of the cutting edge in a centrifugal beet shredder affects the quality of the beet chips and the overall productivity. Its performance may be enhanced by improving the wear resistance on the basis of self-sharpening. To that end, detonation thermal spraying of a wear-resistant coating on the cutting edge is of interest. This process ensures self-sharpening in cutter operation. Operational tests of an experimental batch of coated cutters show that the composite coating is effective and the cutting edge operates continuously for 20 h until a foreign object enters the beet shredder.
